Young Adult Therapy
Navigating the Transition Into Adulthood
Young adulthood is a time of tremendous growth, change, and self-discovery. While this stage of life can be exciting, it can also feel overwhelming. Many young adults find themselves navigating new responsibilities, college, careers, relationships, independence, family expectations, and questions about who they are and where they're headed.
Therapy provides a supportive space to explore these challenges, gain clarity, build confidence, and develop practical tools for managing life's transitions.
Common Reasons Young Adults Seek Therapy
Anxiety, excessive worry, and feeling overwhelmed
Depression, low mood, and emotional regulation challenges
ADHD, executive functioning, and organization difficulties
Self-esteem, confidence, and identity development
Relationship challenges, family conflict, and difficulty setting boundaries
College transitions, career uncertainty, and navigating adulthood
Major life changes, adjustment challenges, and feeling stuck or directionless
Trauma and other difficult life experiences
Support Through Major Life Transitions
The transition into adulthood often comes with significant changes and uncertainty. Whether you're leaving home, starting college, entering the workforce, navigating new relationships, or figuring out your next steps, therapy can help you develop confidence and resilience during times of change.
Many young adults feel pressure to "have it all figured out." Therapy offers a space to slow down, process challenges, and build a path forward that feels authentic and meaningful to you.
For Young Adults Living at Home
Not every young adult follows the same path, and many continue living with their parents while attending school, working, saving money, or figuring out their next steps. This stage can bring unique challenges related to independence, communication, boundaries, and family expectations.
Therapy can help young adults develop greater confidence, self-understanding, and communication skills while navigating relationships at home and preparing for increased independence.
Parent Involvement When Helpful
Young adulthood is often a time of balancing independence with ongoing family relationships. While therapy remains focused on the young adult's goals and privacy, some clients choose to include parents in occasional sessions when it would be beneficial.
These conversations can help improve communication, address misunderstandings, strengthen relationships, and support healthy transitions toward adulthood. Parent involvement is always discussed collaboratively and only included when it supports the client's therapeutic goals.
My Approach
I provide a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where young adults can explore challenges openly and honestly. Therapy is tailored to each individual's needs and goals and may incorporate approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, attachment-based therapy, and other evidence-based interventions.
My goal is to help young adults better understand themselves, build confidence, strengthen relationships, and develop practical tools for navigating life's challenges.
